At PSL we are dedicated to ensuring that we are a socially responsible company and take our commitment to the environment and community very seriously.
One of our prime goals during 2008 was to centralise our administration in order to reduce our carbon footprint. As a consequence, during May 2008, we closed 3 offices and opened one "Head Office". This significant step has reduced our energy demands for electricity and gas and also reduced our water consumption.
Since our clients are located all around the UK and Ireland we strategically employ personnel based on location in order to keep travelling to a minimum. To this end we also actively encourage our support staff to work from home whenever possible.
Every opportunity is taken to recycle used items such as paper, printer cartridges, glass, cardboard, batteries, plastic and mobile phones.
All members of staff are employed on a fair basis regardless of race, gender, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
Significant training is given to all our staff, where the development of each individual is recognised as a key driver for both personal advancement and business success. All our staff are paid a fair wage with appropriate remuneration for acts of excellence.
We recognise that a family/work balance is essential in the 21st Century and accommodate all reasonable requests. This takes the form of flexible working hours, day care arrangements and ex gratia holiday days over the festive period.
A safe and pleasant working environment has been created within our head office and all appropriate measures have been taken to ensure this.
Due to the geographic spread of our clients, and the need to frequently visit, PSL actively promote fuel efficient vehicles. The routing of vehicles is also carefully monitored and controlled to keep the mileage to a minimum.
Further to these initiatives, conference call facilities are used whenever possible to negate the need for travelling to meetings and the unnecessary use of fossil fuels.
Every attempt is made to give our clients the opportunity to purchase from suppliers that not only exercise good CSR principals but also those suppliers that can offer a local supply of products. To this end we have put considerable time and effort into developing "A Green Book Directory", which covers suppliers of food commodities throughout the UK.
We have also extended our normal client service and agreed terms with an eco-friendly packaging company. This initiative helps to reduce landfill sites and is promoted with all appropriate clients.
