Our Team
As all PSL Operations, Sales and Purchasing staff are highly experienced in covering all aspects of the food and catering trade, we can draw on this knowledge and work with you to re-develop and implement standards and processes best suited to your specific environment.
Operations
By regularly reviewing and measuring the efficiency and effectiveness of work practices through visits by our Operational Staff, we can assist our customers in achieving consistently high levels of service, ultimately resulting in overall improved efficiency, staff performance and margins.
During visits, PSL staff also carry out spot-checks to ensure our suppliers adhere to specifications, weights, counts, sell-by dates, origins, yields and prices. Leaving your kitchen staff free to concentrate on what they do best.
Our Operations Managers also review stock rotation, wastage, portion control, staff feeding, stock levels, yield checks, and security. Other opportunities to maximise profitability involve our staff making recommendations, where appropriate, on menu flexibility and costings, seasonality and possible substitution of goods used, plus we offer advice on procedural and administration-related issues, again providing analyses to highlight opportunities to create savings.
By adhering to best practices pin-pointed by us, our clients not only improve their customer care and internal procedures but may further increase profitability.
Purchasing
PSL manage our supplier network by meeting and developing relationships with all suppliers. Our Purchasing Team collects price information and monitors trends on a day-to-day basis which assist in improving the negotiation of terms with suppliers. The quality of the products and service available to clients is either sustained or, more commonly, improved.
PSL ensure suppliers achieve an acceptable level of due diligence in Health & Food Safety and also act as an independent auditor of supplier prices. PSL's audit process includes our Purchasing Team visiting clients to 'police' the back door, ensuring that such standards and delivery service are met.
PSL's market knowledge, supplier relationships and purchasing volumes assist in our aim to negotiate the best available prices through our market sector. Clients utilising matrices achieve additional price benefits through best price purchasing.
The pricing matrix incorporates over 100 nominated suppliers, with a minimum of 15 suppliers per major commodity.
To enable us to secure the best purchasing solution for all our clients, PSL combine our skills and expertise with the use of leading edge technology in the form of Marketboomer.
Our carefully selected nominated suppliers have the ability to 'bid' for our clients' business, ensuring that the same quality standards and service as specified by our clients are upheld for each and every product (including non-food produce). The Marketboomer system automatically selects the lowest price available.
PSL also manage client retrospective discounts, ensuring that supplier turnover figures are validated and reconciled and that monies are correctly received by clients.
